The Wien Museum, originally designed by Oswald Haerdtl and opened in 1959, was extensively renovated, expanded and developed into a pioneering city museum from 2021 to 2023. With a net usable area of around 12,000 m² (previously: 6,900 m²), the museum now offers sufficient space for a new permanent exhibition on the history of Vienna, a new floor for special exhibitions, functional rooms for events and culinary offerings with a view of St. Charles Church.
The realisation of this project was a complex challenge that included demolition, new construction and revitalisation under monument protection requirements. Existing metal structures were refurbished and renovated in collaboration with heritage experts,

Wien Museum in new splendour
while the "Haerdtl" windows were faithfully reproduced to meet contemporary building physics standards. A special feature is the entrance pavilion, which is fitted with electrochromic glass elements and stabilised by 9.20 m high glass swords.

- 1,200 m² PR façade (joint storey)
- 300 m² PR façade (2-storey)
- 750 m² PR perforated elements (so-called Haerdtl windows)
- 450 m² all-glass façade (pavilion)
- 180 linear metres of walk-on glazing
- Refurbishment and customisation of existing windows
