Residential construction

Schützengarten, Dresden

Dresden, Germany / 04.2021 - 09.2024

The new urban residential quarter ‘Schützengarten’ has been completed right next to the historic centre of Dresden, near the famous Zwinger Palace and the Semper Opera House, after a runtime of 45 months including execution planning. PORR Hochbau Ost was commissioned by BauBeCon Wohnwerte GmbH as the general contractor for the turnkey construction of a total of 403 modern apartments, commercial space for restaurants, offices and retail, as well as two underground car parks with 193 parking spaces. The construction work was spread across 19 residential buildings, which were realised in two construction phases. The Schützengarten has 28,950 m² of living space as well as 1,969 m² of commercial space – the sheer scale of the project was a challenge for the project management and the construction site team. PORR Spezialtiefbau GmbH took on the special civil engineering works.

The Schützengarten quarter: green and family-friendly

The new ‘Schützengarten’ quarter impresses with its green and family-friendly design. Spacious and green courtyards have been created within the four- to seven-storey buildings, offering residents a high quality of life. The entire construction project is not only shaping the urban landscape, but also helping to create much-needed living space in the rapidly growing capital of Saxony.

The picture shows the Schützengarten as seen from the village of Drohnen. The entire area can be seen.

A special focus on sustainability

The demolition of the old 1980s buildings began in 2018. Two eight-storey office buildings, a former canteen and a bunker from the Cold War era were demolished. The 4,300 tonnes of concrete parts obtained and processed were reused for filling the construction pits and for road construction. From energy-efficient and mobility-friendly planning to environmentally friendly demolition and resource-saving construction, the concept of sustainability determines the project.

The apartments and commercial space are managed by BUWOG Immobilien Treuhand GmbH and offer future residents modern and urban living in one of the most sought-after locations in Dresden. ‘We are delighted that the completion of the ‘Schützengarten’ project will not only provide the city of Dresden with urgently needed living space, but will also offer future residents a high level of living quality,’ says Lutz Rosenberg, PORR building construction site manager in Dresden.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
