Harmanli–Svilengrad railway line

Svilengrad, Bulgaria / 12.2012 - 03.2016

The Plant and Design-Build order placed by the National Railway Infrastructure Agency included the technical design, execution planning and as-built design of the Bulgarian Harmanli–Svilengrad railway line including comprehensive accompanying work.

In addition to the 38 km railway line and the Svilengrad freight station, seven railway bridges, ten road over- and underpasses as well as two stops were newly constructed. Besides waterway regulation and noise protection measures, all existing buildings were modernised and partially newly erected. The Svilengrad railway station was furthermore converted into a Schengen border station. In Lyubimets, not only the railway station was completely redesigned, but also a bypass road was built. Within the framework of value engineering, a ballast bed cleaning machine was used between Svilengrad and the Greek border.

All aboard.

This project’s major challenges were compliance with all Natura 2000 regulations and the installation of radiation detectors as well as a train disinfection station.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
