Green Line, Metro Doha

Doha, Qatar / 10.2013 - 06.2019

As part of the Qatar National Vision 2030, Qatar Rail began planning a modern and safe public transport system in 2010. This is also an important part of the infrastructure for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

With a total volume of around EUR 2 billion, the construction of the Green Line metro line in Doha was not only the largest contract in PORR's history at the time of award in 2013, but also marked a milestone for the capital of Qatar. The project was realised in a joint venture with local partners while PORR was responsible for around 50% of the contract volume.

A milestone for Doha.

In total, around 33.4km of tunnel were drilled as a double tunnel tube with a length of two times 16.7km and an internal diameter of 7.1m. The lining was done with reinforced concrete segments from our own production. At peak times, six tunnel boring machines were in use simultaneously on the construction site. Over a length of 3.2km, the line runs above-ground, with 2.7km on a bridge made of precast elements.

Six underground stations and one above-ground station marked another centerpiece of the work. These were built on a turnkey basis, including complete interior fittings and extensive building services. The railroad stations and other structures occupy a total of 2.8km of the overall line.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
