Tadeusz Mazowiecki Bridge, Rzeszów
Rzeszów, Poland / 07.2014 - 09.2015
The new road bridge crossing the Wisłok River completed in late 2015 not only gave Rzeszów a faster way of getting across the river but also a spectacular landmark. The 480-m stay-cable bridge’s pylon towers 108.5m above the river and the storage reservoir of the city’s thermal power station. The bridge thereby forms a core piece of a 1.9-km-long road section with a dual-lane dual-carriageway profile with whose construction PORR had been commissioned in 2014.

A bridge as a new landmark
The project’s tight schedule proved particularly ambitious. The bridge and road construction sections were to be completed within less than 15 months. Furthermore, supporting structures in the thermal power station’s storage reservoir needed to be built and the reservoir had to be secured against water outlet in the process. Strong wind presented further challenges to PORR’s fitters when working on the pylon.
Some 27,000m³ of cement concrete, more than 1,700t of steel and 1,898t of reinforcing steel were used to build the bridge.
