New building for the primary and secondary school in Munich-Milbertshofen

Three building blocks for school and sport

The design by Braun Architekten divides the new development into three building blocks: a primary school, a secondary school as well as a central block housing sports and communal areas. The buildings are grouped around central play areas and are connected to one another at ground floor level.

The central block houses a canteen on the ground floor, as well as a swimming pool and a double-height sports hall on the first floor. An all-weather sports area has also been planned for the roof. The new development also includes basement areas and an underground car park.

Shell work with varying requirements

In the secondary school area, a key focus of the work was on the ceiling above the ground floor and the surrounding in-situ concrete balconies. The execution had to be co-ordinated with, amongst other things, the installation of sheet piling and the sewerage works.

The escape balconies and staircases, which were constructed in exposed concrete, also presented particular challenges. Unlike a design using precast elements, these components were manufactured on site.

Building in a confined space

Restricted access, as well as limited storage and manoeuvring areas, characterised the site logistics. Material deliveries, structural work and the use of machinery were therefore adapted to the spatial constraints of the building site.

The foundation for the new school site

The structural work laid the foundations for the further development of the school site. The interconnection of teaching areas, the canteen, the swimming pool, the sports hall and the all-weather sports area creates the structural framework for accommodating a variety of educational and sporting activities within a cohesive complex.
