SAWI Sport Arena Vienna

Vienna, Austria / 07.2022 - 10.2022

The new Sport Arena Wien will be built by 2025 on the site of the former Ferry Dusika indoor stadium in Vienna's second district. The multifunctional building has a total of three independently playable and accessible units on different levels. The facility will be used as a training and event venue as well as for international matches. The Sport Arena Wien is the first sports centre of this size in Austria. It is being realised according to the latest criteria in terms of climate protection and sustainability. Targeted measures will ensure that the building is energy self-sufficient - and this has earned it the "klimaaktiv Gold" certification standard.

Vienna Sports Arena builds on sustainable geothermal energy.

High standard thanks to near-surface geothermal system. A total of 70 geothermal probes with a total length of 10,500m were installed to provide the Sport Arena Wien with an efficient and sustainable supply of heating and cooling. These probes supply the building with 607 kW of heating capacity or 972 MWh of heating energy and 382 kW of cooling capacity or 459 MWH of cooling energy. In addition, PORR Bau GmbH's Specialised Civil Engineering department, which was awarded the civil engineering contract for the preparatory measures, constructed 284 SOP piles of DM 55cm and DM 90cm for the deep foundations, connecting pipes for the geothermal probes, sewerage and earthworks as well as the concreting of the cleanroom.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
