Renovation of runway 16/34 at Vienna Schwechat Airport

Vienna, Austria / 04.2013 - 05.2013

One of the many projects PORR has undertaken for Vienna Airport was to renovate the surface and base layers of runway 16/34 and upgrade its shoulders.

The construction work was scheduled from April to the end of May 2013 and had to be undertaken over 25 nights between 9 pm and 7 am, and on several weekends from 9 pm on Friday to 4 pm on Sunday. The quality specification required a seamless runway surface.
The very tight schedule presented a big challenge for the teams undertaking the work and all other participants, since the runway had to be cleared by 7 am every day. In addition the scale of the project, the fact that different tasks had to be undertaken simultaneously and the large quantities of materials required equipment to be allocated and coordinated with great precision.
