A fresh approach to road space and infrastructure
The construction project involved extensive roadworks and civil engineering works, as well as the construction and adaptation of the necessary infrastructure. As part of the redesign, existing traffic areas were renewed and the street space was created in line with the new plans.
Particular emphasis was placed on the high-quality design of the public space. In addition to new paved areas, various landscaping measures were implemented. These included new planting and tree locations, flowerbeds with climbing plants, as well as seating and design features. Fountains and cycling infrastructure elements were also part of the redesign. Another key element was the integration of the ‘sponge city’ principle. This combined street space design, greening and the sustainable management of rainwater. In addition, the drainage infrastructure was adapted to the new design.
The implementation required close coordination between road construction, drainage, landscaping and the other trades involved in the project. At the same time, the necessary traffic restrictions during the construction work were kept to a minimum in terms of both duration and geographical scope.
The redesign of Kreuzstraße has created a modern and attractively designed street environment that combines technical infrastructure, quality of life and sustainable open-space design.
