Concrete slab construction

General overhaul of the A1 between Mehring and the three-way intersection at Moseltal

Rhineland–Palatinate, Germany / 05.2017 - 12.2017

The approximately 7km-long section of the A1 motorway between Mehring and the three-way intersection at Moseltal was in need of a general overhaul. The project was awarded to ÖBA and comprises a two-layer, two-part concrete slab with an exposed aggregate concrete surface structure, approximately 55,000m² in size. One particular challenge was posed by the longitudinal and transverse gradient of up to 6%. In addition, 20,000 running metres of joints and 1,800 running metres of monolithic curbstone with integral gutter were produced using slipform construction.

Landesbetrieb Mobilität Rheinland Pfalz

All services performed by ÖBA.

The company’s own mobile concrete mixer, with a mixing capacity of 200m³/h, produced 12,000m3 of sub-surface concrete and 3,500m3 of road surface concrete. All services were performed by ÖBA using its own employees and equipment: from producing the concrete, to installing the concrete slab and producing the exposed aggregate concrete surface, to fabricating the monolithic curbstones and joints.

What ultimately counts in the construction business is successfully completed projects. PORR has many of these.
