The first building in the new Donau City quarter

Designed by Wilhelm Holzbauer, Andromeda Tower, located on the premises of Vienna’s UNO City in the city’s 22nd district, rises 113 m into the sky and comprises three basement and 30 upper floors. It is mainly used as an office building; only the ground floor and the first floor house a bank and smallish retail premises. The entrance hall encompasses three storeys from the ground floor to the second floor. The building technology control centres and conference rooms are located on the basement floors. The core ensemble consists of emergency escape stairwells, a freight and fire brigade lift as well as six sets of lifts with adjacent sanitary facilities.

The building is a reinforced concrete structure founded on bored piles, which are designed as auger cast piles with a diameter of 120 cm and in lengths of up to 23 m. Resting on them is a 1.5 m thick bottom slab which, together with the piles, serves to transfer the building’s loads. The façade was clad in aluminium and glass. Besides its elliptical shape, the building’s architecture is characterised by tilted oriel sections.

Following a construction time of 26 months, Andromeda Tower was completed in January 1998.
