Vienna, 31 July 2017 – A critical traffic hub for the road network in central Poland is now being realised: last week PORR S.A. and GDDKiA signed the contract for the design and construction of the dual-level Lubelska traffic hub. The tender is worth PLN 190m (almost EUR 45m). This investment will link Warsaw’s south bypass (S2) with the east bypass (S17) and the A2 motorway. Completion is planned for September 2020.

“This tender underlines the expertise of PORR S.A. in Polish road construction”, said Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR AG. “The Lubelska traffic hub is a crucial project for the road network around Warsaw. There is a very tight schedule in terms of timing and stringent demands in terms of the quality of execution. That’s why we see the fact that the project was awarded to our Polish team as a strong vote of confidence”.

In future the S2 expressway, Warsaw’s south bypass, will link the Konotopa traffic hub, west of Warsaw, and Warszawa-Lubelska to the A2 motorway. The completed sections of the S2 will have a significant impact on the development of the road infrastructure surrounding the capital. The PORR tender includes the design and the construction of a dual-level traffic hub at the junction of the existing DK 17 carriageway with the newly planned S2, A2 and S17. It is essential that all of the aforementioned sections and the Lubelska traffic hub are completed practically at the same time in 2020.

The range of services that PORR will provide includes the water/wastewater works, telecommunications and elements of the electronics infrastructure. PORR will build a road and bridge system almost two-kilometres-long, similar to the road surfacing on the A2, S2 and S17. The dual-level traffic hub will prevent collisions as the lanes will not overlap and the turn-offs allow for the smooth entry, exit and manoeuvres of traffic flows.

“Bringing together the different sections of road into a well-functioning whole is an enormous challenge for every company involved in realising this road construction project. That’s why the touchstone for all of the contractors will not just be the final deadline, but the timely provision of the requisite skilled labour, construction materials and equipment. Our local team is ideally equipped to handle this”, said Piotr Kledzik, Executive Board member of PORR S.A.
