PORR acquires another large-scale project in Berlin

Vienna, 29.10.2021 – PORR is expanding its pipeline in building construction in Germany with another major project. It has won the general contractor tender to build the ABC Tower at Alexanderplatz in Berlin. The impressive large-scale project will be Berlin’s second-highest building and its value of around EUR 240m makes it the largest single order in building construction in PORR’s history. Construction is set to take 41 months in total.

“We are known throughout Europe for our expertise in building construction, making us even more delighted to realise a new landmark in Berlin in the form of the ABC Tower. A fantastic project that we once again acquired with thanks to our holistic, one-stop-shop approach”, said Karl–Heinz Strauss, CEO of PORR.

For the specialist civil engineering part, PORR has already built the excavation pit and associated sealing and foundation works with its subsidiary Stump-Franki. Following the successful completion of all foundation works in September, the solid basis for building Berlin’s second-tallest tower is now in place. The cramped conditions present the biggest challenge in terms of logistics. Comprehensive preparatory work and optimisations developed in cooperation with residents and the authorities have led to a logistics concept fit for purpose.

Best inner-city location with optimal usage mix

At a height of 150 metres, the residential tower designed by the architects’ office O&O Baukunst impresses with its 39 floors and floor space of 42,000m2 in one of Berlin’s premier locations. The construction of the facade brings together four work steps and retains the optics of the curtain facade in glass-fibre-reinforced concrete. In combination with the glass elements behind, this yields the greatest possible transparency as well as serving as a very special highlight visible from afar.

The ABC Tower also offers a diverse mixed-use concept and is located within walking distance of one of Berlin’s largest metro stations. In addition to a shopping centre on four basement floors, a fitness area, and modern offices, there will be 303 micro-apartments up to the 22nd floor, a service floor, and the SKY lounge. Above this will be 74 exclusive and luxury apartments. Part of the urban development project “Alexanderplatz Berlin”, as the first high-rise building on the square the tower will act as a beacon project, at the same time as enriching the public space and significantly increasing the quality of those who stay here.
